Leyton Orient: Josh Wright becomes Justin Edinburgh's 'last signing'

Josh Wright first signed for Leyton Orient in January 2015, after two loan spells

Josh Wright says he is “proud” to be the “last signing” made by Leyton Orient manager Justin Edinburgh before his death aged 49.

Edinburgh died on 8 June – days after suffering a cardiac arrest – but had already agreed to sign the midfielder.

Wright, 29, previously played for Gillingham under Edinburgh – who made him captain – and invited him to his wedding last summer.

“The man’s an absolute legend, and a hero of mine,” Wright said.

“Justin to me wasn’t just a gaffer, work colleague, manager, or boss – he became a friend, someone I could trust, lean on and I’ll always remember and thank him, and hold him in the highest regard.”

Ex-Southend, Millwall and Scunthorpe player Wright has rejoined Orient on a two-year deal from Bradford City, becoming their first signing since promotion from the National League.

He was brought to Gillingham by former Spurs player Edinburgh in 2015.

“He will always be around for me and many other people involved with the football club and I’m proud of that, to be his last signing that he made,” Wright said.

“I was signing here of course for the club, Leyton Orient, but the icing on the cake was Justin being the manager – that was a big, big thing for me.

“I just want to make him proud out there now.”

Wright said Edinburgh’s son, Charlie, had become a “close friend”
